Finally decided I need an upgrade and with a budget of £600-700 but having never bought a pc in the past (always had laptops) I wouldn't know where to start! I don't exactly know how to build a pc with all the separate parts. And I don't know how much money I would save doing so but it would be great if I could just order it custom/pre-built from a website as I would have no idea what to do.. If anyone could point me in the right direction or give me any suggestions that would be great! Cheers!
Best thing to do now is to learn how to build a PC. It's fairly simple and a lot of tutorials are online.
Whats the total for that? For the noobiest noob I think the build time is 1 day. You should try it yourself. There are plenty of video guides on youtube as well.
£685 I think it could be fun building it, but I don't wanna mess it up or miss out something! Gunna check around youtube to see if I could give it a go.
Wow the decrease in price is unreal! Thanks for this. How do you think this build would hold up to todays standard of games?
Why the i5 4460, tests show that the 4690 is slightly better overall?? and the R9 seems like a decent shout in comparison to the 750Ti, thanks!
Because the i5 4460 is barely worse (like 1-2 fps, which you won't notice) and it's around 30-40 euros cheaper.
The CPU and RAM change is trivial. The CPU is best for gaming although if you really wanna save money, its better to get i5 4460. Single channel ram is better for upgrade in future. 2 x 8GB RAM will be good boost for later instead of buying 2 x 4GB RAMs now...
The money he saves he can spend it on the GPU, which is the most essential part of any gaming build. As for the ram, a 1x8GB stick would be fine but it depends on when he will get another.
Tweaking the build now thanks guys! Going back to the GPU I upgraded it but there seems to be some issues with 'drive bays' being blocked as the GPU might be too long? Should that be much of a problem? http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/dMTWP6
Says you can remove them if the graphics card is too long. So you would still have 2nd cage where you can install HDD. I have also removed the first cage. --- Double Post Merged, Nov 26, 2014, Original Post Date: Nov 26, 2014 --- Dude, you don't need to buy the windows. Save it up.
Ah right, thanks for clearing that up man. --- Double Post Merged, Nov 26, 2014, Original Post Date: Nov 26, 2014 --- You mean just do it via a USB or something? Could this cause any problems in the future e.g updates?
Yea for Windows 8.1, Install via USB. Spoiler: more info If it ask for the key, enter a generic one (XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB) and it will accept it and continue with install. After installing Windows, install Microsoft Toolkit: https://mega.co.nz/#!bYBQzZBI!1-esQJdjtnMDKhkp--EpsCpnQmtaHtQIaNRUMAOnQUA This will activate Windows.
Don't hate me but the laptop I use is a MacBook lol --- Double Post Merged, Nov 26, 2014, Original Post Date: Nov 26, 2014 --- Seems simple enough, cheers! Now to install the OS do I just plug in the USB and restart the pc?
Yea, when motherboard doesn't find windows it should try looking for windows install in DVD or USB. If not, you will have to boot into bios and change the boot sequence to make USB the first boot device. If you get stuck, you should ask here, many people can help you for windows install
