I am unsure if this is just me or just happened out of chance but has anyone else on the server had their motherboard die?

About 4 years ago my pc kept crashing and blue screening, after some poking around my motherboards memory slots were broken.

After replacing the motherboard and a few other upgrades over time my pc has been fine for 4 years, until last night. The only thing running was counter strike, when my pc crashed and my motherboard died.

This just seems strange how I have had no problems and after a few days of playing counter strike again something goes wrong.

    Athlon II
    8gb ddr3 1600
    Gtx 750ti
    Asrock 990fx extreme3 motherboard
60gb sad with larger HDD for storage
    Cx750m power supply

It’s a bit outdated but runs all games fine including css until my motherboard dies. Only thing that is the same is the cpu which I have a new one on the way

So what happens on boot up? Does fans work? does HDD start up?

Really doubt it's caused by any program but a faulty component for example faulty psu.

Also can you be bit more specific about cpu and RAM

Maybe it is your hardware on your pc that is the issue?

Pc starts up, fans run disks start and everything but no output from the motherboard.

Psu is brand new so is the ram, tried changing Ram slots to see if it’s a faulty slot like last time. Tried removing all the hardware and getting it to post.

All seems to fail. Only thing I could conclude is that the motherboard is dead.

Does it seem like windows is loading? Like the HDD light blinking as if its busy.

Nope, fan speed doesn’t change, HDD don’t accelerate everything literally just gets power. As far as I can tell nothing runs through the board.

Do you have a small beeper speaker on the motherboard? It might speed things up.

Try this, remove RAM on all slots and then try powering on. Notice in detail, the sounds and the light.
And then put one ram in the first slot, the one closest to the CPU.
If still nothing, then remove the ram and try the second RAM...

So it is exactly the same as if you don't have any RAM in the slot?

    Already tried clearing cmos.

Thanks everyone for trying to help but honestly the board is dead I have tried everything. Ordered a new one and a new cpu considering the one I was using is probably older than some of the players on the server.

Has anyone else had anything like this happen to them before with a program killing their motherboard? That is what I really wanted to know.

Well if you only play CS:S then maybe it would seem like it caused it. When you run games, system gets heated and heat is the biggest killer of PC components, if your fans or air filters are dusty then your system traps heat which affects their longevity.

That’s the other problem, I have dust filters and inside my pc is always cool, could probably chill a beer in there.

Did you replace the thermal compound on the CPU when you put it back?

If you bought new motherboard with new CPU, don't you think it will need newer RAMs? It's probably DDR4.

Haven’t got it yet but I will redo the thermal compound and no don’t have too much money right now so used same chipset and can hold the same ram.

Run a program to check or the temperature is low enough of CPU & graphic card
Blow out the PC(dust removing) any more information of all programs that are running etc if this doesn't help
