recently something happend with steam and now it doesn't open every time i open steam it freezes at "Checking for available updates" then i close it from task manager and open it again and same thing shows up again and sometimes when i opens team it gets to the login screen but whne i put my password and click on Login it freezes again and nothing happens, i have looked online for solutions and i even reinstalled my steam twice but still it did not fix it, Any help would be very much appreciated.
Have you tried to delete the host file of steam? Navigate to the folder where Steam is installed (by default: C:\Program Files\Steam\) If this does not work. Try to update windows and try to reinstall it. If that does not work either. Try this page:https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/fix-steam-wont-open-issue-easily/
If it still doesn't work after ^^, try this: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/358415206091302351/
Not sure if this will work but worth trying. Exit Steam. Click Start > Run (Windows Key + R). Type the following command: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\SteamService.exe" /repair Launch Steam and test the issue again. Note: This command requires administrator privileges and may take a few minutes. If you have installed Steam to another path, please replace C:\Program Files (x86)\Steamwith the correct path.
That fixed it temporarily but when i opened steam my games had no icons and i restarted my pc and now steam went back to the "checking for available updates" shit --- Double Post Merged, Jan 10, 2019, Original Post Date: Jan 10, 2019 --- I just tried booting my pc into safe mode with network and steam worked like normal but when i rebooted back to normal mode it was back to not opening again
This sounds like a problematic program that is running on your PC.... This isn't a Steam issue. Try closing all running apps... To find out which is causing it, exit apps one at a time and try launching Steam.. once it works then you have found the problematic app.
Steam doesn't like the bellow programs. CCleaner Powershell Sandboxie Cheat Engine IObit Start Menu 8 Process Hacker DLL Injectors Hypervisors Steam Idlers
The only programs running on my pc was Internet download manager and avast i closed idm but steam didn't work and i tried to disable avast and run steam but still didnt work
Which anti-virus are you using? Maybe you should de-active it. Edit: I saw on your post, you were using Avast. De-active it for a while then try to start Steam.
