Hey guys, Please vote for the voice audio codec you prefer or think is better. Speex is the original/older codec used on CS:S. CELT is the newer one introduced on TF2 and CS:GO before being added to CS:S. On paper, CELT has higher bitrate and lower latency than Speex.
There is no question about which is better choice. And nosteam players should just get a proper copy from summer sales.
@Nomy it should but seems like it has made audio quality (in and out) worse for nonsteamers. Might be a bad rip or just that their pc is so potato that their audio card cant handle CELT. Still: Speex never again
The quality is also dictated by the hardware they use but that wasn't my point. Even if they buy the game and use on same hardware, it will still suck right? I'm just saying the new voice codec works for non steamers.
A nosteam person in server today joined and couldn't hear any voices, after trying some things he mentioned that the command 'sv_voicecodec vaudio_celt' works in console just in case the new codec doesn't work for them.
@topbadge try what Ollie mentioned but CELT has also lag compression that might be the cause. CELT has very low delay and therefore it compresses according to your ping.
