In my older notebook (bought 2012, OS Win 7) I have a Radeon HD 6470M/6520G (depending on installed software somehow) as Dual Graphics with an HD 7400M. Since today, every time I log in the notebook crashes and the BSOD says either atikmdag.sys or atikmpag.sys (located in Windows/System32/drivers). I can use safe mode, but any time I have these files active, regular boot crashes. I tried installing newer drivers, reinstalling drivers, installing older drivers, system restore, but so far nothing worked. When I delete the 2 files, I can properly log in but cant use the graphics card. So my question is, does anybody know that problem or knows how to fix it?
Sadly didnt work. Disabling one or both of the .sys lets me use the PC with VGA Graphics still. Can do everything except playing games (CSS closed on launch). I think the graphics card is defective. Before the problems occured it shut down due to overheating. Wasnt by far the first time and that particular notebook has a long list of hickups, but I think after 5 years and with no more heat paste it just broke. At least I cant think of anything else explaining that behaviour.
Did you already tried to contact the support service of the company from the graphical card? they're most of the time fast in responding these days.
I did a quick search and found these instructions on fixing the BSOD. http://windows7themes.net/en-us/fix-atikmpag-sys-atikmdag-sys-blue-screen-errors-bsod/ Apparently it could be some permission issue by the driver installer. Manually replacing the BSOD causing files might fix it. Worth a try.
Just got back from them. The guy didnt know about the particular issue, but advised a backup and sending it in (no more warranty after 5 years). And just sending it in would cost 150€ -.- Yeah, tried it. (earlier with a false expand.exe, stupid GNU/MinGW; now with the correct one). Still BSOD, I try an older driver later. I will also take a look if the dependency walker finds anything. Man I am so glad that I have another notebook where I already moved my stuff on
Tried again and with older drivers. Still BSOD. Dependency Walker isnt helpful as well. Currently its only the atikmpag.sys, but I dont find anything useful
You should try reading the minidump created when your PC crashed. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html If possible paste the text here so we can help you better.
