    Hello.
    I have a laptop.

Recently my GPU fan stopped working. I found out since I was getting 30fps on CSGO and 8fps on Rust and my right side of the laptop was very hot.

    I used GPU-Z and it was saying >90°C .

So I opened the laptop and cleaned the fans and it started working.

The same thing happened again yesterday so I opened the laptop and tried to diagnose the problem.

I swapped the GPU fan and put it in the CPU slot and it was working perfectly there. So it means the GPU fan is not broken.

I then put the CPU fan in the GPU fan position and the CPU fan didn't work.

After much effort to find out why, it started working again.

Could this be a motherboard problem. As the GPU fan port is a daughter board which is attached to the main motherboard.

    TL;DR:
    Laptop GPU fan not working
    Swapped CPU and GPU fan:
GPU fan working in CPU, CPU not working in GPU
    Starts working again after again.

If the gpu fan is controlled via a separate daughter board that is connected to the motherboard then it is possible that the connection may be loose, if the connection is visible check to see if the connection is loose. Normally they would be connected by ribbon cables, if the connections are secured then it is probably a damaged component in which case I hope your warranty is valid.

    warrenty is not valid.
They are connected by attachment not ribbon.
I have ordered the daughterboard which cost me £50 but was just wondering why it is working sometimes and not other times.

Are you sure the fan spins freely? When you connected CPU fan to GPU fan's header, you said it didn't work but did you try to spin it a bit to see if it starts running?

I didnt spin the CPU fan in the GPU fan header but when i put it in, it was not spinning and it should have been since the GPU was running at 90C (laptop was on when i did this, like a open heart surgery ;) )
