Hey guys, since I turned my laptop on earlier today my ethernet won't connect, incredibly annoying considering it worked yesterday. I have tried a load of things but can't seem to get it to work (also as of yet, googling the problem hasn't got me anywhere):

    - Restarted router/unplugged the adapters
    - Uninstalling/reinstalling and updating drivers
    - Disabling/enabling the device
    - Diagnosing it
    - Been into command prompt and used netsh winsock reset and netsh int ip reset
    - Tried ipconfig /release, ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /renew (however for /renew it said it couldn't do anything because 'media was disconnected'?)
    - Used ipconfig /all and tried entering the IP/subnet mask etc manually

Literally have no idea what to do now and was wondering if anyone has had the same problem or knows any tricks. Using wireless atm and hate it, too slow and can't really play online games for lag. Might also be worth mentioning I had this problem before when I first set up the adapters (Realtek PCle GBE Family Controller), however managed to fix it after using netsh winsock reset etc.

    Help?:(

have you tried a different ethernet cable or using a different port in your router?

Couple of things, are you using DHCP or have you assigned a static IP address to your Laptop/devices?

Can you get any internet connection from any other devices that are connected to the router. When I last experienced the issue, it was saying I was connected to the router, but because the internet itself was down, it was flagging as unidentified network.

If you have got a static IP address, ensure it is in the same range as the local network set by the router, as this will also give the unidentified network error.

    Edit:
Also, if you have any VPN programs or network mimicking tools (eg Windows built in VPN / Hamachi), disable/uninstall those, one of the releases for Hamachi a while back gave me a similar issue.

As of yet, no, I'll probably do that tomorrow if it comes to it

    DHCP

Yeah, my 2 other housemates are connected etc, plus my phones okay and laptop on wireless

Also I don't have any VPN stuff, don't like to mess with it

Have you tried going into your router settings?

May be worth clearing anything for your Laptop from the router, any leased IP addresses or blocks on the laptop through the router.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

If it is a home broadband router, see what IP range your laptop is on (ipconfig), if it is on something like 192.168.0.XXX then you should be able to connect into the router by either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.254 (change the first 3 sequence of numbers to match your laptops IP address. This should load the router page and the login details should be on the router. Gateway usually in your router too, depending on whether you have a separate gateway device.

If you are not experienced in networking or routers, I wouldn't suggest it.

Have you reverted this change? DHCP assigns that for you and if you entered incorrect IP and subnet, it will never work.

Make sure the PC is it set to automatically acquire IP.

If it worked before then try what delirious suggested which is trying a different lan cable.

Also make sure someone is not playing a prank on you by adding your Mac address to your router's block list.

Yeah I have, reverted it as soon as it wouldn't work

I think I have a couple of cables lying around somewhere so I'll try a different one later, and I don't think my housemates are smart enough to know how to do that, if they are I'll be very suprised

Try to find a thick lan cable preferably cat6e. It says on the the cable wire itself. Cat5 will do too but 6e for best gaming experience. Shit cables can limit link speed between router and PC and sometimes can't establish connection.

I have cat5 cables atm but I'll try to grab hold of a cat6, don't understand why it would've killed my connection all of a sudden considering it was working the other day :/

If you are unplugging it and plugging it back in everyday then one of the wires may have come loose within the RJ45 connector.

Guys I've tried a different ethernet cable, still no luck, I've even tried different cables connecting my laptop straight to the router without the adapters and it still won't connect.

Also tried re-pairing the adapter plugs, no luck.

When I try ipconfig /all it says nothing net to 'Default Gateway:', is that a problem or should there be something there?

Yea it means your PC can't connect to your router.

Try this. Click start and type network reset. Let it do its thing and see if it works.

If not, unplug you router for about 5 mins and then connect it back and try again.

If not, reset your router. You will need to enter the ssid which is the WiFi name and the password to what it was before. So other devices can connect normally.

Just done network reset and unplugged the router for 5 mins or so, then plugged it back in, then turned my laptop back on and it connected!

Don't really understand why it decided to disconnect like that in the first place, but your suggestion worked, thanks a lot for your help guys :)
