    Good Ebening (Emery banter) All,

Grimzie and myself have spent some time this evening discussing potential rule updates for the Football server. The current rules have been in place for a number of years and with a changing player base are starting to become outdated. There are a number of rules that have been edited and a couple have been added to provide more clarification to players. Please see the new list below, as well as comments on any changes that have been made.

    Rules:

    1. No hacking, cheating, exploiting or glitching. You will be permanently banned without warning. No exceptions. ## This has been merged with current rules 14 and 15 to keep everything concise and easy to understand.

    2. Respect all players – this includes Clan Members and Admins. ## Removed DJs as ]HeLL[ FM is non existent.

    3. No recruiting or creating "Friends groups".

    4. No racial or religious slurs.

    5. No inappropriate images in sprays (i.e. pornographic, racial / religious hatred sprays). ## This has been made more general to avoid all inappropriate sprays as opposed to just pornographic sprays.

    6. No advertising servers or external websites. ## Minor grammar change.

    7. English ONLY on mic.

    8. No spamming microphone, text chat or radio commands. ## Made clearer to avoid radio spammers.

    9. No music to be played on microphone. ## Made more general to avoid any confusion.

    10. No kids on mic. ## Slight change.

    Game rules:

    1. Only 1 goalkeeper for each team is allowed – only use the !GK skin if you are playing as goalkeeper

    2. Do not ruin the game for other players – this includes, but is not limited to chasing, position stealing, blocking, deliberate own goals, scoring direct from kick off. ## Combined with other game rules to give more discretion to ]HeLL[ Members and admins.

    3. Do not change sides when your team is losing. ## Minor change to wording.

Server Administrators - ## This section doesn't relate to anyone in particular so does not give players any information on specific admins. This could be removed or replace SuperUsers and PayAdmins with the names of each individual admin for the server. This means players know specifically who the admins are, should they need to contact them.

    • ]HeLL[ Members

    • SuperUsers

    • PayAdmins

Server commands (Type in chat to execute).

    • !admins - Shows all admins currently online ## Added command.
    • !servers - To connect to another ]HeLL[ Server

    • !soscore - To view information about the game

    • !sostats - To reset your rank

    • !sprint - To sprint (Recommended use with bind)

    • top - To view top list

    • rank - To view your rank

    • statsme - To view your stats

    • session - To view what you have done in the current session

    • rtv - Rock The Vote

    • votemap - To vote a map

    • nominate - To nominate a map

    • votekick - To vote kick a player when no admin present

    • voteban - To vote ban a player when no admin present

    • votemute - To vote mute a player

    • @ YOURMESSAGE - To chat to admins privately ## Re-worded.

    • !settings - To change client-side settings ## Updated command from 'settings' to '!settings' as original command didn't work in server.

    • nextmap - To show the next map

    • timeleft - To show the time left for the next map

    • thetime - To show the current server time in the top left of the screen
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We also thought of an extra idea that would make it easier for new and existing players.

    • Automated green text pop-up when you join the server
The idea behind this would be to have a pop up whenever someone joins the server to not only welcome them, but if they are new advise them to view a guidelines thread (which will be made shortly) on the forums. This will include a more detailed explanation of game rules to make them clearer, as well as useful console commands and a general guide as to how to play on the server. Ideally, when the thread is created, the direct link to the thread could be put into the chat upon a player joining, so they can copy and paste to get straight into the guide, rather than having to navigate through the forums to find the thread manually.

Hopefully this gives a half decent idea of rule changes that we feel would be beneficial to everyone on the server. It also makes it easier for ]HeLL[ Members who are called to the server to deal with issues as the rules have been made a lot clearer, and generally Members don't play the server often enough to understand the way the game is played.

    Many Thanks

    Grimzie & Nabster

Removing the DJ part and extending rule 5 with the inappropiate sprays etc are good points, but the rest of rules are fine imo. And where did you leave rule with "no bunnyhop scripts, macros.." etc.? xD It's important this is mentioned because some players do not see this as 'cheating/hacking'.

I do not agree with changing rule number 10, I think this rule just has been put into place to make sure no annoying voices are on mic, kids should be able to use their mic if it's not annoying and/or breaking any other rules.

I think the !admins command is reserved to admins for a reason, to prevent players from break rules deliberately when they see no admin is on. (Though there is a workaround for this when you use the votekick command, if you get the message "votekick is disabled" it means an admin is in the server)

The game rules are pretty straight forward and I do not think it needs a guide, football server is pretty linear and easy to understand when the !rules have been read, but a guide is always nice to have :).

Thank you for your response Brandon, feedback is appreciated whether good or bad.

With regards to the scripts / macros etc. - I would have thought that it would be common sense that using something extra to the main game (whether downloaded or otherwise) that gives you a competitive edge over other players would be classed as cheating.

    Rule 10 - fine.

The !admins command - the votekick / ban workaround is widely known, within 10 seconds of joining yesterday people realised there was an admin online, without knowing specifically who it was. I would still maintain that it would be helpful for players to know specifically who the admin is, 99% of the time people will only realise there is an admin online because of the voting commands. There are very few occasions where players will check that an admin is online and then decide to break the rules. Therefore I still maintain that it would be useful for players to know who to contact if needed.

I think you have underestimated the football server when you say that it is pretty linear. Yes, the idea of a game of football is straight forward, but as with JB, there are unwritten rules that the majority of experienced players follow, and new players don't. This is why you'll find the same players on the server all the time. New players find it difficult to even hit the ball, let alone with control when you're facing someone who has played for 10+ years. Because the CS:S football community has become so small, new players are almost always put off as the community in general doesn't want to help them. Take this thread for example - there have been no responses from someone that actually plays the football server regularly, yet the server will still have 16-20 players online each night. This is a prime example of the way that the CS:S football community plays - they don't care so much about the forums or ]HeLL[ Community, they simply want to play. I can tell you for a fact that if the server closed down tomorrow, a new server would re-appear within a week, where someone will have hosted their own.

This is why it's so important to make things clear on the server side, as the player base is not like JB where people are active in-game and on the forums. Players (particularly new players) need to have everything there in front of them when they join to try and keep them coming back. They need to know who to get in contact with when they have an issue, else they will get frustrated and not keep coming back.

    Again, any feedback is appreciated.

    Cheers

First of all, thank you very much for your time and Grimzie's, and the effort you both have put into this suggestion.

We have considered to implement some of the changes you have mentioned to the server rules (https://hellclan.co.uk/motd/fb.html- you might have to refresh the page) - Thank you very much for your help with this, please let us know if any issues.

With regards to !admins command being public, we will discuss further internally and make changes accordingly if we decide to make it public.

It would indeed be quite useful to have a football guide for the new players detailing appropriate rates, the do's and dont's, tips and tricks for css football. I also think it would be helpful to have a message in-game directing players to the guide, however, I cannot guarantee this would happen (depending on when nomy has time). Regardless, it is still worth having a football guide on forums and if we decide to have this in-game message, the guide would be linked accordingly.

    Thanks again!

Thank you Boy, that's appreciated. It's nice to see some of the most important ones to us i.e. that affect gameplay and / or atmosphere the most. Thankfully I personally have not had to play with cheaters in any capacity in the years I've been playing on the football server so it can't cause any harm by leaving those rules as they are. It was more of a case of trimming down existing rules so players aren't faced with a wall of text as soon as they join - they could quickly read through the rules and have a decent idea of what was expected of them. I'm glad there have been some changes though, at least 4 hours wasn't wasted!!

I'm working the next couple of days and then I'm off for 4, so will hopefully have the guide up in some form or another by the weekend. Ideally I'd like to be able to do a video guide, I know there is one on YouTube that still makes sense, but it would be difficult to track down the creator and get permission to use it. I'm sure he wouldn't mind as have played with him in the past, but if we're using it as an 'asset' to the server I guess it would be better to take no chances. I think it would have to be a text guide with accompanying screenshots to begin with, if I get the time in the near future to record I will edit this as and when possible.

Obviously if there are any other rule changes people can think of that would benefit the server, still comment as the more opinions there are the better the server will become.
