First time website design and development

    It is open source and free anyway.

    For a simple website like this, there is a lot of unnecessary stuff in wordpress.

    i think hes trying to say your website is very simple u can make it without using any such softwares
    but really if you are asking about other softwares like wordpress then here are some u can try
    Joomla
    Durpal
    Jekyll
    Blogger
    Medium
    Ghost
    Craft CMS
    whmcs
    etc etc

    I'm a bit old school when it comes to web development, I just use Notepad++... I learned a lot from Microsoft FrontPage back in the early years and then used Macromedia Dreamweaver.. learnt a lot from them but they only good if you are new.

    I would suggest Geany as editor. It offers syntax highlighting for dozens of languages, including HTML, PHP and CSS. Also offers compile options for actual programming.
