Hello everyone! Today I have decided to make a quick guide for the very easy process of turning png's into high quality sprays.

Step 1. Make your png 512x512 or some other power of 2. It helps to have a transparent background. I don't want to clutter this part up with how to do, that's its own guide for image editing in general.

Note: if you want to have a transparent background you want to have a 1 pixel border of the image that is all transparent or it causes a glitch[1]. Today I've decided to use this image:

Simply save it as a png in whatever editing program you use to get it to the right size. It is very important it be a power of two.

Step 2. Import your spray into VTFEdit by going file -> import then selecting your image. This part requires the program VTFEdit to turn your spray from png, a format that Counter Strike doesn't really understand, into VTF, the texture file that valve uses in general for maps and such. You can download it here, and know that this next part is in VTFEdit.

We need to have these import settings, and note the circled items are important (if your image's size is a power of two):

Step 3. Saving your VTF. Once your image has been imported you should see a screen like below. Just make sure you have only these 5 checkboxes checked:

Then file -> save as, and place the file wherever you want.

Step 4. Import your spray to Counter Strike one of two ways.
The first method is to simply open Counter Strike and select your spray from options:

And the second is to name it spray.vtf and place it in the logos folder found at this location and make it read only. I prefer this method because I have an easy and quick place to swap out the sprays. I have the one we'll be using selected here:

Step 5. Use your spray in game! I think the default key is T but you can bind it to whatever, and look at the high quality cuteness blasting you in the face!

    Footnote:

[1] For why you don't want to do this, look what happens if you don't make a 1 pixel border of transparency (included in your 512x512 or whatever):

It's quite subtle but it's there, a line around the top. Not entirely sure why it happens but it does so make sure you include it!

Oh also you can follow this link to download the spray I made in this tutorial, the cute Leopard Boi (´・ω・`)
