We all know connect 4. Whether you played the game as a kid or you've only seen it on some maps in jailbreak, the rules are quite simple. You take turns dropping pieces into the grid until one person gets 4 of their own pieces in a row. I wanted to host an event where we play this game for a few reasons. First, it's a very simple and accessible game. The rules are extremely simple and the game can be picked up in a few minutes. Second, it's free and easy to play online and ping can't sabotage you. And third because people want it so I'm doing it Prize: If we ever meet irl, I will buy you dinner (not joking). I don't want to do a monetary prize because that would just encourage cheating in a game that is only strategy (i.e. easy to use a bot). This should be primarily about fun IMO. Format: The tournament will be unseeded double elimination bracket. I'll enter the names of everyone who signs up into a challonge bracket and the placements will be completely random. Each set will be first to 2 games until winner's finals when it will become first to 3. Who goes first in the first game is decided randomly by the website, each subsequent game just alternates from there. The winner of each set should send me a private message (to not clutter up the HeLL discord) stating that you won, what the score was, and a screenshot showing the score 2-x in your favor (the website will prompt you to enter a username, so please enter something recognizable as yourself). If you do not do this, I will assume the game has not yet been played and may message you to let you know you should. To avoid this, please report as soon as your set is over. When: The bracket will be released and matches will start Saturday the 23rd of June at 6pm GMT (check what that is in your local time before signing up please). Depending on how many people sign up, the amount of time may vary. I expect everyone who signs up to be able to contact me on discord (Spiraler#0050) or be in the HeLL discord (preferably both), as these will be my main form of communication for announcing matches and recording results. To sign up, simply put your discord name (including the number) below. I will sign up first, as mentioned already my discord is Spiraler#0050. All are welcome! If you are somehow found to be cheating, you will instantly be disqualified.
Can I suggest that the winners of the tournament also take a screenshot of the end result as a receipt of winning to prevent players lying. This is what I asked for when I hosted the HeLL Rocket League Tournament
Would it last over an hour? Germany is playing on that Saturday at 7PM UK time and I really want to watch it..
Given that it's double elimination, if around 8 people sign up it would probably take around an hour so long as the people playing are prompt in their showing up and carrying out matches. Any more than 8 and it will probably take a little bit longer but not by too much.
Please also include the number attached to your account. I notice there are two users named mangus in the HeLL discord and I would like to know which I should use. The picture below shows where you can find yours, directly below your name.
It'd be best if I can get everyone on the same communication platform, and discord is quite good. You can get it for free and I think even have it in your browser without any download. Also there is an official HeLL discord. If you don't want to get a discord, I can work with that, message me and we can figure out what would be the best way to do this.
Thanks to everyone who came to the event! Big congrats to @shark12 a.k.a. orto, an incredible player, couldn't be beaten a single time! Here is the bracket for those interested: https://challonge.com/ip41p4c4
