What's up fams. I'll be building a 1080p gaming pc for a friend of mine, however with the release of the new intel hexacore and quadcore cpus at completely difference prices I'm in a bad dilemma between the two. What also really troubles me is Ryzen's instability with motherboards and ram, I've built three ryzen pcs before and always came across an issue, either would have to switch the slots or run at specific clocks etc.

Our budgeterino is $700 and https://www.skroutz.gr/ is where we'll get the parts.

Anyone with knowledge far greater than Linus Tech Tips benchmarks care to advise me? I'm thinking of either getting the i5 8400 or the r5 1600 since both are similarly priced..

I'd expect a more elaborate reply coming from you PASi. You don't think the 1600 can handle games well? Especially paired with a gpu in a limited budget?

When you choose a motherboard, look at its memory specs, it will tell you what frequency it runs and is compatible with. The frequencies with (OC) would mean they are compatible on that frequency but it requires OverClocking.

The same way if you bought a higher frequency ram, it would run on a lower frequency.

The site uses euros so I think it will be better to give the budget in euros. Also whats on the list so far? Did you choose other components like GPU?

    I'll give you a tip.
Choose a base of components like the GPU, HDD, PSU, CASE etc... and then choose a set for CPU, MOBO, RAM for both AMD and a set for Intel. You will quickly see the difference in price. Intel motherboard tend to be bit more costly.

    Ah yes, I meant 700€.

I think these parts will do well.

    Case 84€

    https://www.skroutz.gr/c/28/cases-koutia.html?from=catspan&keyphrase=case

    PSU 65€

    https://www.skroutz.gr/s/8570592/Corsair-CX-Series-550M.html

    HDD 43€

    https://www.skroutz.gr/s/7602143/Western-Digital-Blue-1TB.html

    ^total = 192€

    Graphics card

    gtx1060 3gb = 220€
    gtx1060 6gb = 290€
    gtx1050TI 4gb = 170€

    RX570 4gb nitro+ = 250€
    RX560 4gb = 150€

    Intel

    Mobo 109€

    https://www.skroutz.gr/s/12980068/MSI-Z370-A-Pro.html#specs

    CPU 198€

    https://www.skroutz.gr/s/12979210/Intel-Core-i5-8400-Box.html?keyphrase=i5 8400

    RAM 79€

    https://www.skroutz.gr/s/8650374/HyperX-Fury-8GB-DDR4-2400MHz-HX424C15FB2-8.html

    ^total = 386€

    AMD

    Mobo Starting from 80€
    https://www.skroutz.gr/c/31/motherboards-mhtrikes/f/370853_706217/ATX-Ryzen.html?keyphrase=mobo

    CPU 202€
    https://www.skroutz.gr/s/11139197/AMD-Ryzen-5-1600.html

    RAM 79€
    https://www.skroutz.gr/s/8650374/HyperX-Fury-8GB-DDR4-2400MHz-HX424C15FB2-8.html

    ^total = 361€

^total AMD build without graphics card = 553€ (147€ left)
^total Intel build without graphics card = 578€ (122€ left)

Now if we could make some changes that are not significant in order to squeeze in a good graphics card in there? Or should I truly, with all my effort and absolutely must totally convince my friend to add another 50€?

Seems like you are not including the VAT and shipping in your price.

Might help lower the cost if you change to these:

    CASE: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/12207358/CoolerMaster-MasterBox-Lite-5.html 60,90 €
    PSU: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/12550534/EVGA-550-B3.html 59,30 €

    For AMD:
    MOBO: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/11276955/Gigabyte-AB350-Gaming-rev-1-0.html 83,36 €
    RAM: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/11129051/C...t-LT-Gray-8GB-DDR4-2666MHz-BLS8G4D26BFSB.html 79,00 €

You can get higher frequency ram:
    RAM: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/11129051/C...t-LT-Gray-8GB-DDR4-2666MHz-BLS8G4D26BFSB.html 79,00 €

About CPU choice, these modern CPUs are already quite good for gaming so either will do tbh... I'd go for AMD build and get a better GPU. Looking at your post, it seems you more interested in Intel build.

Most of those shops are in Athens, so we'll be able to pick up some if not all the parts, also slightly more interested in intel because I've only been building amd for the past 5 years and the new hexacore seems so interesting :(

    Okay let's do dis.

    AMD:

    CASE: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/12207358/CoolerMaster-MasterBox-Lite-5.html 60 €
    PSU: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/12550534/EVGA-550-B3.html 59 €
    MOBO: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/11276955/Gigabyte-AB350-Gaming-rev-1-0.html 83€
    RAM: https://www.skroutz.gr/s/11129051/C...t-LT-Gray-8GB-DDR4-2666MHz-BLS8G4D26BFSB.html 79 €
    HDD https://www.skroutz.gr/s/7602143/Western-Digital-Blue-1TB.html 43 €
    CPU https://www.skroutz.gr/s/11139197/AMD-Ryzen-5-1600.html 202 €
    GPU https://www.skroutz.gr/s/10263026/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX1050-Ti-4GB-OC-GV-N105TOC-4GD.html 171 €

    total 697 €

Is this good then? I don't know the importance of focusing on the cpu here. I could go for a 1400/1500x and get a 1060 instead, or an i3 8350k which is basically an 7600k.. What do you think?

You can build Intel if you want... Intel is good quality so your friend wont have any regrets.

Looks good to me. Should work fine. Remember to up the ram frequency in bios or it will run at a lower frequency.

You need good balance of cores and clock speed. Depending on games played, some will utilise multiple cores and give a boost in FPS. Also getting AMD R5 1600 future proofs you so you can upgrade GPU without bottle necking.
