My graphics card is currently pretty outdated, and I got a new Monitor for Christmas, I want to be able to play games like skyrim/battlefield on high-ish settings, not bothered about ultra, just smooth enough so I can play them with good graphics. Current specs: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4CPUs) Ram: 4GB BIOS: Award modular BIOS v6.00PG Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 Monitor: 1920x1080 (32bit) 60ghz Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Service Pack 1, 64-bit I was thinking about the GTX750 or GTX750tTi, but I wanted to know if there'd be any problems? Plus gimme advice if there's any decent ones cheaper, No more than £120 pls Thanks
@Nomy I have no idea what a PSU is and no idea how to get it xD I honestly have no clue what 60ghz means lmao @Lux
George splashing out that Kentucky $$$$$ PSU is the power supply which powers all of the components e.g. motherboard, graphics card & hard drive. Open up the case and read the sticker on the side and it should display how many watts...I would recommend a 400-450 PSU for a gtx750ti as they are generally pretty cheap aswell.
Open your side panel and check it from there. If you have a cheap PSU, you aint gonna get good FPS and might crash often too. You need to look for its brandname, model and the wattage. Sometimes brand + watt is enough to determine if its a good PSU or not.
Power supplies don't increase FPS. A better PSU will only give you more efficiency, stability and it will last longer than cheap ones. If the system uses more power than the PSU can deliver, then you could experience lower fps, if that is what you mean, however, I don't know anyone who wouldn't upgrade their PSU if they know they will pull more juice.
And what do you think we mean by shit PSU? "If the system uses more power than the PSU can deliver, then you could experience lower fps" you kinda answered yourself there while you said "PSU has nothing to do with fps in games" before.
PSU still has nothing to do with fps. If a PSU has a lower wattage than what is required (at load most probably), the components (GPU, CPU etc) will perform less to save power which results in lower fps. And if a PSU has more than enough wattage for what is required, then your FPS will stay the same. PS: Nomy stated that a cheap PSU will result in lower fps, however, cheap does not always mean low wattage.
I never mentioned wattage when i said that. It only meant cheap PSUs are not efficient. When I say cheap/crap/shit i mean the unknown brands out there. Not sure of your reason to take it out of context. Some "gaming" PCs that are bought ready built come with cheap PSUs. People who do not know about building PCs don't know the difference between a good and a cheap PSU. Saying its not "efficient" isn't enough, you need to describe what they could experience. When I use non technical words doesn't mean I don't know about it. I was just trying to explain in a non technical way, and your correction isn't valid since you took what I said into something different. Do you agree that the cheap dual or quad rail PSUs are good for gaming PCs? If not then I think we can stop posting already. So again @GeorgeLAD, make sure you don't have a cheap and/or low wattage PSU, you should be alright with the new Graphics. No guarantees about fps and performance if you are using a cheap PSU.
