Are you playing your games on fullscreen or windowed?

Im guessing the game is automatically stretching the game to both monitors right?

Alright, i did a little research for you and it came up with this. Many people have said things along the lines of :

"Yeah I was gonna say Grab Ultramon. It lets you set what program opens in what window."

If you dont wanna do that your going to have to go into the game config and change some coding around to suit your needs, which by far is a lot more complicated

    Ultramon:

Oh yeah, i forgot to add that you dont have to do either of those options, you could of course just go in windowed mode and drag it across into whatever screen you want!

On my primary monitor I have the desktop icon's etc.
But on my second monitor I only have the start bar and the background, no desktop icons.

Maybe what you should consider doing is switching that around? Maybe having your desktop icons on your secondary monitor therefore you will be able to access everything like normal while playing your game.

Everything i have said is at the depth of my knowledge, i dont know any more about this matter, but as i said beforehand going into windowed and putting the game onto the monitor you want is by far the easiest option to go for, ultramon does look good though.

Doesn't quite seem to work. When I am in the Steam overlay, I can switch to the other monitor, but when I click on Google Chrome or something else, the game minimizes.

To use dual monitors you'd have to use the game window'd to be able to interact with the other monitor without the game minimizing.

If you want to play fullscreen and use both monitors without going out of the game, you will have to put noborder in resolution settings, not all games have that tho, for example for CSS you will have to type this in launch options http://puu.sh/1FZNo then you can just ALT+TAB and you use forums or w/e on your 2nd screen and you will still see the game on 1st monitor.

I'll try summarize this thread into one post:

It helps having the extra start bars/task bars so either use ultramon, displaybar or anything else but it's optional.
I use ultramon for my three screen set-up and I find it perfect, you just got to remember to open what you want to use whilst gaming although its usually just web browser.

You can't interact with any other parts of the desktop whilst anything is in fullscreen, there is a fix on the internet which stops flash videos minimizing if you start using another screen.
    http://lifehacker.com/5419028/keep-flash-videos-in-full-screen-on-dual-monitors

So far I haven't found a fix for when watching a movie and using another monitor to stop the start menu appearing above the videos unless anyone has anything?

and finally as said above by Vmx, you need to add "-noborder" into the advanced options of the game and run it in windowed mode to stop it from minimizing to the desktop. this should work for any half-life 2 engine based game.

I use ''Actual Multiple Monitors'' has a nice option that forces games to stay up even if you click outside of the game region ( the 2nd screen) takes a while to get everything set-up properly ( or atleast for me) but it works awesomely well :)
