Hey all, I've always been a fan of Role Playing Games, but only a specific kind i.e. first person etc, it's got to the point where I've played a large majority of them and now I'm stuck, I want a decent RPG and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions. To clear up what I've played I'll put them below.

. Elder Scrolls Franchise: Played through Oblivion and Skyrim multiple times on multiple platforms. Tried Morrowind once on original Xbox but got stuck and gave up after wandering aimlessly for hours. Never played the online games and don't know if I want to.

. Fable series: The best RPG's in my opinion. Played through Fable 1, and love Fable 2, Fable 3 was a bit meh but still played through it a couple times (let's ignore Fable: The Journey)

. Fallout: I have all the Fallouts apart from Fallout 4, I've attempted to play the first 2 Fallout's but they're so different from F3 and New Vegas that I don't like them as much. F3 was pretty much all I played growing up.

. Dark Souls: Attempted the first one, after spending 3 hours getting past the skeletons in the first section, my game glitched and didn't spawn me at the bonfire, instead it put me back at the beginning, uninstalled. Never tried Dark Souls II or III, anyone tell me if they're as hard as the first?

. Dragon Age: Tried to play through Origins recently, I liked the story but really don't like the tactics and team part, also the combat is awful and boring. I played Awakening once but I think I made the wrong decision and got stuck so gave up.

. Dragon's Dogma: The only exception for team play RPG's for me, they were actually helpful in this game. I played this back on 360 but again got stuck on one part and never tried again. Anyone recommend completing this game?

. Risen series: Quite an unknown series I feel, the first game is outdated but the gameplay and story is so solid, it's incredibly difficult, probably one of the only games I've completed with it being so difficult. Then I tried the second game and uninstalled within half an hour, bad optimisation, weak story. Not attempted the third.

. Mass Effect: Completed ME2 and ME3, took a very very long time but was so worth, enjoy these games but they get reaaally repetitive. Tried ME1 but wasn't a fan, don't really know why just wasn't as good as the other 2 I feel. Just re-bought ME2 on Steam woo.

.Others: Knight of the Old Republic - attempted but was too young to figure out what was going on, never played again. Two Worlds - No. The Witcher - Tried the first game, really didn't like, willing to try the second and third if anyone recommends. Mount and Blade - Incredible, got them all but so difficult. Metro 2033 etc. - Love the story/lore, but again bloody impossible (the first game anyway).

I want to try Divinity Original Sin, Diablo III, The Witcher series, Gothic series...anyone got others or any experience with these?

    Thanks :)

Idk if you have a ps4 but if you do horizon zero dawn is so good. Alternatively, the batman arkham franchise is pretty much rpg and they're super fun.

I don't have a PS4 or Xbox One, only games on Steam/Origin atm.
I tried the first game on 360, felt more like an action to me?

Just in case you want to try the series, the events happen chronogically first by:
    - STALKER Clear Sky (2008) is the prequel to SOC
    - STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl (2007) is the main game, also the most basic one from the three games.
    - STALKER Call of Pripyat' (2009) is the sequel to SOC

The games' engine is pretty buggy and stuff, may crash frequently sometimes, but the series are pretty entertaining. Mash of FPS, RPG and open world.
The engine is also pretty moddable so there's some good mods and community patches for each game.

Path of Exile - great free alternative to get that Diablo style game.
Dark Souls - Reinstall it, its a good game, if you enjoy it i recommend DS 2 and 3, DS imo is the best of all.

Is Path of Exile online or is it single player?

Also I have one of the STALKER's in my library, might download it and give it a go, does it have too many jumpscares though?

There's a moderate number of unexpected stuff that has happened to me that has really scared me, so, kind of too many, but it was still very fun!

Don't forget to use quicksave each 5 mins xd

As much as something like Outlast? I played that even though it made me jump like every 2 mins, really good story to it.

Not really as much as Outlast, you may get a jumpscare at least once each 15-30 minutes

Everything running towards you in that game is a jumpscare, coupled with the poor visibility you wont see it until its right up your face. You should try Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light. Its more story driven than fallout, has a better stealth element the atmosphere is one of the best in any game and there are enough weapons and weapon mods to keep you entertained troughout the playtrough. Idk what you mean by rpg because the major consensous says an rpg is a game where you put points into stats at the begining of the game. To me an rpg is any game you can immerse yourself in the story.
    Also Dishonored 1 and 2

Try Gothic 1. It's quite a hard game, didn't really age well and the controls take a couple hours to get used to. But it's still one of the greatest RPGs ever created. If you want something that aged a bit better go for gothic 2, but you'll lack knowledge about the characters you meet and the game won't feel the same at all.

Final Fantasy series. Most people rave about VII but IX is my favourite. Captivating plotline, characters that connect to you as a player and to each other. Lots of funny and heartwarming moments.. as well as poignant and reflective. Very philosophical as well, the character "Vivi" and his story in particular exemplifies this. It recently became available on steam (originally Playstation), along with many other titles in the FF series. FFX is another great one. It's much newer so the graphics etc. are better and it also has a storyline with emotion that draws you in and delves into topics like loss, fear and courage etc.

I found the Witcher 3 to be a lot of fun. Very open world. Cool premise being a bounty hunter you can just roam and pick up jobs that interest you. The storyline makes you want to keep playing as well and teases you enough to stop you from becoming apathetic to achieving the goal of the character you play, Geralt.
