My mic sounds bad on all the Hell servers. I even test it before joining the server and it sounds fine, but as soon as I join a Hell server it becomes distorted. Croshair Vengeance 1500 7.1
This is to do with the codec used by HeLL servers. There is no fix for this. Here is previous discussion: http://hellclan.co.uk/threads/23394/
Has the codec been changed within the last 2 to 3 months? Because my mic used to work perfectly fine before.
Test yer mic by entering "voice_loopback 1" in your console so that you are able to hear yourself. Using a pair of earphones is highly recommended otherwise you'll get tons of feedback. When you are done, turn off the loopback by setting "voice_loopback 0" Next, while speaking into your mic, enter: ** rate 2500 ps rates are old ones , rememberd this piece from way back but try it but normally you can use from 15000 up to .... rate 3500 rate 4500 etc. up to 99999 until your voice sounds the best, no need to go beyond that point. Also uhmmm in console set cl_cmdrate between 20-40 i believe to test , above 40 it doesnt make a diffrence for youre mic , normally youre rate should be 66 but can try and se what gives . Also check if Mic boost is on and how loud etc etc . Hope this might help
Should always use: rate 25000 cl_cmdrate 100 cl_updaterate 100 I dont think using low rates is a good idea to fix mic. Specially when on pub server where the phew phew is more important than the chit chat.
oh dont get me wrong , not promoting low rates . Just tought he could play around with it and see what gives , the rates in my Original post date from adsl/dial up days , just need to update them . With nearly everyoen broadband it doesnt matter that much anymore anyway as far as i believe . Besides arent the servers 66 these days or does 100 tick stil exist ? Tought they changed that .
Pub server is 100 tick so please use max rates if your connection isn't a dialup. rate 30000 cl_cmdrate 100 cl_updaterate 100
I tried everything, even though the mic used to work perfectly fine 2 months ago. sv_use_steam_voice is the issue, and as you've mentioned, it's a server command that cant be changed on my side. Thanks for suggestions though!
That's a USB headset so you are not using the on-board audio. (Asus Xonar DG) Have you tried installing the drivers: http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/support/downloads
That doesn't work either. It is caused by the server codec. Just out of curiosity, what does changing sv_use_steam_voice to 1 do for the server? Yeah, I updated my drivers Nomy.
