I use normal 1280x720 size but any widescreen resolution will do

Umm, don't you mean 280*720 instead?
1280 would make a huge ass signature.

Unless you meant WHILE creating it (before cropping).
Anyway end size shouldn't be too huge since it's a signature.

500x200 is a good start, you could make it wider depending on how it fits each post.

I think 200x500 is a good size for a sig.

Working on high resolutions is better than size down if you want to..

besides why would you make it 280x720 lol that's like a slim and tall picture.. more like just a slim vertical stick

you can use 900x400 or something on that aspect ratio, would be just fine

I make siggys in 1280x720 and won't size them down.. save in same resolution as you started.. if you size down, you'll lose pixels and it will look worse

    @LittleDemon here's a 280x720 picture..

I'm pretty sure you guys meant 500x200 and 720x280? if yes, then I'd still go with 900x400 resolution or anything in same aspect ratio

Forum shrinks down their view anyways, high or low resolution... Been working with 1280x720 for quite a while now and don't always get complaints about the resolution.. sometimes I decrease the height to 650 to give it the siggy-ish look.. but doesn't matter.. i work on bigger resolution to be able to work with elements.. sizing down or up any picture will just make it worse

Well you dont really have to size it down or up once you have made it.. And im not sure about you but I dislike clicking on a sig and it covering the whole screen as real size..

@mKay98 I was referencing your post and got mixed up, cause what you said for size is this :

I doubt this does any good as a forum signature.

    What i mean with 500x200 :

And yet that's still a bit tall for forum sig; i'd personally size it down a bit.

Boy, idm that since i dont usually view full sig

So, again.. I only use a relatively high res to have good space to work on,if you can do fine on lower res, go ahead then, all about personal preference at this point

I'm sorry but we don't need wallpaper signatures. Just because forum displays it smaller doesn't mean it's resized, its temporarily resized by your browser. It's actually the same size and all of it will have to be downloaded for everyone who views the forum and see his signature. So if it's 5mb image everyone will download it, most of the times the whole thread is less than 2mb yet 1 sig from 1 poster will make the download size twice as much... its dumb to have it as a signature. Hope you get this point, its not about personal preference anymore.

Some ISPs cap bandwidth or speed. Why give others a hard time? I have removed some signature that were plain dumbly large and took ages to load making the site slower to load because of it.

Signatures are suppose to be rectangular shaped, the dimensions given by boy is ideal for this forum although i agree with devil that the height could be a tiny bit shorter.. The way you showed his dimension is in portrait form... you know he is talking about landscape right? I'm quite sure you don't as you showed it wrong. They are suppose to be slimmer than the wallpaper dimensions. Forums are for reading... you don't want to make signatures in proportion to texts.

You can surely create on a big canvas, you can create on 200000 x 2000000 if you want, that's not what this is about.. but you need to use your brain a bit and make the signature into a proper size before giving them to someone to use here. You can attach both sizes so the person can use the bigger image for something other than a forum signature... e.g. Wallpaper.

    Hope you understand this point.

Well, sorry i didn't know this affected the forum

Tho would 900x400 be fine? because for me, 500x200 is quite small, wouldn't be able to do crap

Maintain the aspect ratio and you can have as big as you want. Just resize when done.

1000x400 can easily be made into 500x200 or even 250x100. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. This is basics.

Concentrate on dimensions.. not file size...

What you are making are wallpapers and they can exceed 5mb.

500x200 is used by a lot of signature designers I know.
